• A Child of the 70s and 80s

    I had many toys
    In my youth
    They were not uncouth

    I had He-Man
    With Castle Greyskull
    Playing was never dull

    I had Star Wars
    The Millenium Falcon
    I put it into action

    I had Voltron
    It was so much fun
    With it, I would run

    I played every day
    I ran and lept
    I didn’t have a pet

  • The Halcyon Summer of My Youth

    I think back
    To the summertime
    Of my youth
    I was carefree
    We went swimming
    At the Brentwood pool
    We played in
    The Big Yard
    All the time
    Mommy bought us
    Flavored italian ice
    And orange
    Push up pops
    From the ice cream man
    We’d also get popcorn
    And long strands
    Of strawberry licorice
    My sisters and I
    Caught lightning bugs
    In glass jars
    We played
    All day long
    We rode our Big Wheels
    Around the neighborhood
    We made mud pies
    And played in the woods
    We played It Tag
    Red Rover
    And Hide ‘n Seek
    We were free

  • Gospel Musings

    I walk
    Into the abyss
    Survival is
    Hit or miss

    In the distance
    I see the Light
    It will save me from
    The Satanic blight

    I’m surrounded
    By many a demon
    They are grotesque
    One was named Legion

    Apart from Christ, we’d each
    Hear the death knell
    As it sounds
    Another soul goes to hell

    But Christ was a perfect
    Propitiation
    He died for our sins
    This is cause for elation

    On the third day
    He rose
    This great truth
Is beyond what one could suppose

    Repent sincerely
    And believe the gospel completely
    You will be regenerated
    You’re a new creation totally

  • Johann Sebastian Bach

    Bach’s music
    Is sublime
    It has stood
    The test of time
    Sacred cantatas
    Passions
    Sonatas
    Concertos
    Fugues and Preludes
    For harpsichord
    And pipe organ
    He had
    Over 20 children
    But sadly many died
    In infancy
    Still, Bach had joy
    In the Lord Jesus
    He wrote his music
    For God’s glory
    And he asked for
    Jesus’ help
    On his compositions
    His music
    Had complex precision
    Bach was a master
    Of counterpoint
    And harmony
    He wrote for
    Multiple voices
    His works for cello
    Are deeply moving
    As is his
    Well Tempered Clavier
    In his day
    He was an organ virtuoso
    Able to improvise
    On the spot
    Better than anyone
    Had ever heard
    Bach’s music
    Is truly
    Transcendent
    And heavenly

  • The Truth

    I heard
    The death knell
    When mankind
    Fell

    Adam was
    Our federal head
    When he sinned
    We would all be dead

    Original sin
    Touches every man
    But God provided
    A redemptive plan

    Christ was
    Our propitiation
    The spotless Lamb
    Who grants us salvation

    We are in Christ
    A new creation
    This is cause
    For jubilation

    We share the gospel
    During the day and night
    This precious truth
    Is out of sight

  • Christ Our Mediator

    Christ is
    Our sole mediator
    He intercedes for us
    With Father God the Creator

    We need no one else
    Not Mary or a saint
    Anything else is idolatry
They bow to her and even faint

    We should not venerate anyone
    But God Almighty
    Mary was sinful
    And a non-virgin definitely

    The Triune God
    Is worthy of worship
    Not any creature
    Only His Lordship

    Let us preach the gospel
    Christ crucified, died, and rose
    This is what matters most
    It is God Who chose

  • A Vietnam Soldier Comes Home

    The soldier
    Went to war
    He wondered
    What he was fighting for

    Combat
    Was fierce & deadly
    He narrowly averted death
    Providentially

    He returned home
    To insults & jeers
    He felt unappreciated
    He cried many tears

    He felt guilty
    For surviving
    When his comrades died
He had PTSD & wasn’t thriving

    Finally, he got help
    His emotional scars
    Were healing
For him, there are no more wars

    He repented
    And believed the gospel
He was born again that day
    In the chapel

    He is now
    A man of peace
    Slowly his demons
    Did cease

  • Gospel Meditations

    I once was trapped
    In the mire of sin
    Christ was a propitiation

    The old me
    Was totally depraved
    I was in darkness enslaved

    But Christ set
    The captives free
    He did it for me

In Christ we are a new creation
United with God in one accord
    Our image of God restored

Being born again, the Holy Spirit
    Quickens our soul instantly
    We’re regenerated immediately

    Next comes justification
    By faith alone
It’s possible because Christ did atone

Now I work on mortifying the sinful flesh
    Sanctification is a lifelong pursuit
At times this process is painfully acute

  • My Wonderful Big Sister Violet

    My dear sister Vi
    Is very sly

    She cleans our home
    Rarely does she roam

    Vi rubs my back
When I get a painful attack

    She cooks food that’s delish
Vi makes it as I wish

She helps me when I’m blue
Cooking for me a lamb stew

    Vi is compassionate and empathetic
She helps me with issues psychiatric

We have wonderful conversation for sure
Vi has a degree in English literature

    We laugh and cry together
    No matter the weather

    Vi is my best friend
It’s her and I until the end

I love her more than the stars in the sky
If you knew her you’d see why

Vi is a gifted poet and an artist too
She critiques my poetry with her point of view

We love listening to 1980s music on our Echo Dot
It just hits the right spot

  • Native Americans

    I lost my heart
    At Wounded Knee
    On the Trail of Tears
    This is a sad history

    The Native Americans
    Suffered greatly
    Their mistreatment
    Was a painful tragedy

    They worshipped God
    The Great Spirit
    In the sky
    Their abuse was illicit

    This noble people
    Hunted the buffalo
    They smoked
    Tobacco

    Now Native Americans
    Live on reservations
    Far removed from ancestors
    They face deprivations
