• My Journey

    I walk through
    The dark wilderness
    Of my fractured mind
    Babylon has fallen

    The voices
    Are never ending
    Whispering things
    I don’t want to hear

    I am a stranger
    In a strange land
    My thoughts race
    I cannot comprehend

    I find refuge
    In Christ
    Order in chaos
    A mighty Redeemer

    On the ocean
    Of my mind
    He calms the waves
    And beckons me

    I am broken
    But not defeated
    When I am weak
    Christ is strong

    Pray for me
    As I navigate
    Hallucinations
    And delusions

    I have
    The mind of Christ
    I can discern
    Spiritual matters

  • The Mall: Halcyon Days

    Saturdays in the 1980s
    We went to the mall
    Century III
    We had a ball

    We walked
    What seemed like miles
    So much to do
    We all had smiles

    Looking at all the books
    Was really great
    We each got one book
    There was nothing to hate

    We threw pennies
    Into the water tank
    There were so many coins
I watched my penny as it sank

    When we got hungry
    There was plenty to eat
Au Bon Pain and Potato Sack
    Orange Julius made it complete

My sisters – Vi and Tanya
    Made the time pass fast
    We laughed, joked and chatted
    We had a blast

I had my very first coffee
    At the Coffee Tree
    I’ll never forget the aroma
    I got it for free

We also visited the pipe shop
    Pipes were arranged so neatly
Oh the aroma of the tobacco
    It was heavenly

    It was fun to see
    The women with big hair
They used cans of hair spray
To achieve a look so debonair

    Playing video games
At the arcade was so fun
    I’d be in there
    Until set the sun

We’d all pile into our car
    A 1976 Volkswagen Rabbit
    Powder blue
This mall was such a good habit

Sadly Century III is no more
    It’s condemned and run down
But I still have my sweet memories
When it was the best mall in town

  • Snowstorm

    I venture out
    Into the snow

    Where I’m going
    I do not know

    Such a splendid
    Sight

    A soft blanket
    Of white

    I spot
    A black crow

    It caws at me
    And flies low

    Each snowflake
    Is unique

    I hold a few
    And take a peek

    They are so beautiful
    Crystalline complexity

    Evidence of God
    A great diversity

    I look under
    A street light

    Below I see
    A dazzling sight

    Like millions
    Of diamonds shimmering

    Such brilliance
    I behold the glittering

    I trek back home
    It’s a cold night

    The full moon
    Shines bright

    I go to bed
    All cozy and warm

    Outside rages
    The Arctic snowstorm

  • A Winter’s Night

    The wind howls
    In the cold night

    On the streets
    Not a soul in sight

    We are snug and cozy
    In our home

    We are thankful
We have no place to roam

With a cup of hot tea
    In our hand

    We read Scripture
    And pray for our land

    America needs to repent
    Of its sin

    Christ died for us
    He was a propitiation

    The fireplace crackles
    We are nice and warm

Now we read a good novel
    Outside rages a snow storm

    We lay down to sleep
    A sleep so deep

    Goodnight to all
    Hear Christ’s call

  • Untitled

    My name is Zak

My mind is out of whack

    Mentally speaking

I have a few screws loose

    On the train of sanity

    I ride in the caboose

    I suffer from

    Schizophrenia, major depression

    And anxiety disorder too

    Sanity I do eschew

    I am rather crazy

    My grasp of reality

    Can be rather hazy

  • In Christ Alone

    In Christ Alone
    Is found my hope
    He saved me
When I was at the end
    Of my rope

    My Redeemer
    He set my soul free
    God breathed
    New life
    In me

    My Lord
    His sovereign grace
    Saved a wretch
    Like me
    Christ saves every race

    My Savior
    In Him I am complete
    Christ died for me
    Every single sin
I have a Lord so sweet

    My King
    Whom I adore
    Christ provides
    For my every need
    My fate is secure

  • Deus Vult

    The noble knight
    Advanced into battle
    Riding his white steed
    He thrusts his spear
    Into many a Saracen
    This was mortal combat
    Satanic Islam spread
    Across the Middle East
    Like a vicious cancer
    Taking over
    Historic Christian lands
    The Saracens raped, looted
    And murdered their way
    Across the Holy Land
    Convert to Islam or die
    Many of those in Christ
Took the path of the martyr
    The Saracens advance into
Western Europe ground to a halt
    Thanks to many a brave
    And courageous Christian
    Who shed their blood
    So that Christendom
    Would be free
No heavy yoke of sharia law
    For the green lands
    Of Western Europe

  • A Winter Meditation

    My sister Vi and I
    Gaze out our windows
    Admiring the first snow
    Of this winter
    In each unique snowflake
    Is a crystalline microcosm
    So too are our souls
    Each unique
    Those who are in Christ
    Have been washed
    In His precious blood
    New creations
    We are made as white
    As new fallen snow

  • The Incarnation (Revised)

    Divine Logos
    Uncreated and eternal
    Condescends as a human
    Man in God
    God in man
    Totally man
    Whilst totally God
    Who can fathom
    A deep mystery
    Miracle of miracles
    The God Man lives
    Infant babe
    King of Kings
    A spotless Lamb
    Lord of Lords
    Christ was born to die
    So that we may live
