• The Sufficiency of Scripture

Both Catholics and Orthodox deny the perspicuity and sufficiency of Scripture alone.

Scripture is divinely inspired, the New Testament authors wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

We Reformed affirm Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone). This ensures the true gospel is not obscured. We recognize the perspicuity and total sufficiency of Scripture. Scripture is the highest standard of authority, and the only inerrant one.

By denying the gospel of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for the glory of God alone, according to Scripture alone, the Catholic and Orthodox are in grave error.

The only way the true gospel is preserved and protected is by the principle of Sola Scriptura.

It ensures that our doctrine is based on God’s Word, and not on the man made traditions and not on Catholic or Orthodox magisteriums (papal pronouncements, decrees from various councils – such as the ecumenical councils, the beliefs of so-called Church Fathers, etc). The Catholic Magisterium asserts infallibility as a teaching authority. Catholics and Orthodox place man made traditions, and the teachings of their respective magisteriums, on the same level of authority as Scripture.

The authority structures, in the Catholic and Orthodox churches, are highly problematic, and riddled with outright heresies.

The ONLY remedy for this doctrinal madness is to affirm Scripture Alone as the sole authority for defining doctrine.

Catholic and Orthodox apologists are skilled in fallacious reasoning. Most of them are unable to discern the truth, and to embrace the true gospel, because these things can only be conveyed spiritually. The truths of Scripture are not accessible to anyone who is not born again (regenerated).

Applying the metric of Sola Scriptura to the Catholic and Orthodox churches, we find they are in fact false churches with a distorted and unbiblical gospel, a false gospel. This renders them as apostate entities. Without the anchor of Sola Scriptura, churches will descend into heresy and blasphemy against God. All of their rich vestments, smells and bells, mean nothing if one isn’t born again (regenerated). I believe these two churches have members who are born again, but sadly the vast majority are unconverted.

Even in the Reformed church, we have goats and sheep together. The true church isn’t an institutional church like the Catholic or Orthodox. Rather, it is the invisible church, made up of the regenerated from all churches, which is biblical. The born again church members were chosen by God, and they are given the twin gifts of sincere repentance and belief in the true gospel.

A select number of members of the Catholic and Orthodox churches are born again (regenerated), but the sad truth is that the vast majority of people in these churches will die in their sins and go to hell, apart from Christ.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

    2 Timothy 3:16-17

I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

    1 Corinthians 4:6

And how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

    2 Timothy 3:15

And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

    1 Thessalonians 2:13

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

    Hebrews 4:12

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

    Colossians 2:8

Thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.

    Mark 7:13

  • An Assessment of Modern Art

Michelangelo is probably turning in his grave at this absurdity!

This duct-taped banana artwork by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan just sold at Sotheby’s auction for an incredible $6.24 million (USD).

The piece is simply an ordinary banana duct-taped to a plain white wall.

The fact that this ridiculous piece of “art” is highly acclaimed by museums and art “experts” just shows that in modern art the emperor has no clothes!

Modern art is not about mastery, talent, originality, or the genius which true masters of the past possessed. Anything, no matter how banal, offensive, or just utterly stupid, is now highly regarded and can generate millions of dollars in its perceived worth.

One of the few modern artists I actually like is Andy Warhol, who was a fellow Pittsburgher. 99% of modern art is absolute garbage. No imagination. No mastery. No talent. Art should be something which not just any person, with no training or understanding, can create.

The art industry is responsible for creating and sustaining these works of “art”. The art critics, art buyers, art galleries, art media, and art museums, are all complicit in this travesty.

I perceive little if any, value in modern “art”. I will continue to appreciate and be moved by the true masters of art from the past. My sister Vi is a fantastic artist!

  • One Mediator or Many

In sacramental churches, such as the Roman Catholic and Orthodox, people pray to God the Father through Jesus (as Christ taught us), but they have other mediators whom they pray to, or through, such as Jesus’ mother Mary and certain “saints” (believers in Christ whom their church declared to have led a very holy life, and they thus now reside in heaven).

Scripture is clear that Jesus is the sole mediator between God the Father and us. It is also clear that the priesthood of all believers is in effect, so we have no need of an office of a priest.

It is idolatry to pray to or through anyone else besides Christ.

For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

    1 Timothy 2:5

It is improper and unbiblical to offer prayer to a mere creature. Prayer, praise, and worship should only be directed to God.

Some Catholics consecrate themselves to Mary’s “immaculate heart”. This is sheer idolatry. Mary does not possess an “immaculate heart”, she was sinful and in need of her Son to save her, same as all of God’s children.

Oftentimes Catholic churches will have prayers to Mary in the liturgy, and petitions to her asking Mary to save them. This is blasphemy!

Catholics and Orthodox offer to Mary what they call “hyper-veneration”. This is veneration on steroids. They claim they do not worship Mary, yet their theology tells the true story. Pilgrims travel from across the globe to various Marian sites, such as where alleged apparitions of her took place. They prostrate themselves before statues of Mary, and often cry hysterically. They kiss icons of Mary. This is all utter idolatry!

Mary has the power to hear millions of prayers to her simultaneously, according to Catholic and Orthodox theology. This power is divine and there is no way a mere creature, even one in heaven, could perform such a task.

I noticed that Catholics and Orthodox members online will become enraged if you challenge any of the various Marian beliefs, such as her being immaculate (without sin), or being an Ever Virgin. They don’t respond with the same degree of outrage and anger when Christ is being attacked. It is very telling.

In my learned opinion, based on over 25 years of observations, the anecdotal evidence that Mary is worshipped, by the Catholics and Orthodox, is very strong. Such a pity. They need to trust in Christ alone.

For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
    Hebrews 9:15

Because of Christ alone, we’re able to stand before A Holy and Righteous God clothed in the righteousness of Christ. At Calvary, Jesus exchanged our sin for His perfect righteousness vis a vis penal substitutionary atonement. Our sins were imputed to Christ, and His righteousness was imputed to us. Through His mediation is the sole means of salvation.

Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

    Galatians 3:20

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

    Hebrews 8:6

  • All You Can Eat

    I will feast all day
    Without delay

    Gourmet food I shall eat
    Fried chicken can’t be beat

    I’ll dine on prime rib
    I’m not telling a fib

    Some pumpkin pie I fancy
A cup of egg nog is dandy

    I’ll consume a pork roast
    I have reason to boast

    For me, a culinary delight
    Is always out of sight

A hot anchovy pizza is the best
It’s better than all the rest

    I’ll be eating something sweet
I also love eating juicy meat

  • Christ the Lord

Christ is the Lord of Lords
    We sing a beautiful hymn
    For Him

Christ is the King of Kings
    Him we adore
    Repent and believe I implore

    Christ is our Redeemer
At Calvary, He paid for our sin
    He was our propitiation

Christ is the Son of God
    Fully God and fully man
He followed God the Father’s plan

Christ is the Word of God
    God’s wrath He bore
    He defeated death forever more

Christ is the Son of Man
He went to hell you see
    He set the captives free

Christ is the Alpha and Omega
On the third day, He rose
It is sinners that God chose

  • Irene Uram – My Gramma

    My dear grandmother
    She was unlike any other

    She had painful knees
    To God she made pleas

    Her arthritis hurt a lot
She rubbed on some Icy Hot

    At bingo she had fun
She trusted in God the Son

She showed her love with food
Gramma cooked regardless of her mood

I cherish my memories of her
“See that!” is part of my lexicon so dear

We used to talk by phone every day
Her absence makes me full of dismay

I long to kiss her on the cheek
And receive a hug so meek

She had a strong Catholic faith
For most of her life, she had good health

Gramma’s Polish food was the best
    Better than all the rest

How I long to eat her homemade galumpkis
    And her pierogis

She loved watching the Pirates play baseball
She cheered at the pitcher’s fastball

She was proud of her Polish ethnicity
    Gramma loved polka music decidedly

I miss and love you as much as the stars in the sky
God took you home, I know that but I still cry

I will be reunited with Gramma in heaven one day
Until then I’ll reminisce and pray

  • My Feet

    Vi rubbed my feet
    They can’t be beat

    She used tea tree oil
    My feet won’t spoil

My feet are fresh and clean
    They have a wonderful sheen

I have a bad callous on my big toe
Each year it continues to grow

The podiatrist will give my toenails a trim
    I look good and slim

    My feet smell so sweet
    With healthiness they are replete

  • Santa’s Big Night

    Santa Claus departs from
    The North Pole
    He only visits poor families
    On the dole

    If you look outside
And search the skies so quick
    You may see
    Jolly St. Nick

    The elves make toys
    Without delay
    They toil all night
    And all-day

    Santa will land
    On our roofs
    He comes down the chimney
    Hear his reindeers’ hooves

    On Christmas morning
    Kids will open their gifts
    Outside are tall
    Snow drifts

    Santa’s work
    Is finally done
    Now he can relax
    And have some fun

  • Jesus Is Lord

    I thank God
    For His sovereign grace
    Christ died
    For the human race

    Due to Adam’s fall
    We fell into sin
    But Christ was
    A mighty propitiation

    He came to earth
    One frosty morn
    Oh glorious day
    When Christ was born

    At Calvary
    He took on God’s wrath
    Christ bled for us
    That was His path

    On the third day
    He rose
    We celebrate this event
    With song and prose

    Jesus made salvation possible
    For the sons of earth
The Holy Spirit quickens our soul
    This is the new birth

    Let all creation proclaim
    Christ is King
    The angels are praising Him
    May all of Christendom sing

  • A Christmas Sleigh Ride

    We’re in a winter wonderland
To God, we make a petition
    It’s our
    Yuletide tradition

    My sister Vi and I
    Travel in our sleigh
    We’re overjoyed
    And very gay

    We’re nice and cozy
With a blanket on our laps
    We just passed by
    Two good chaps

    Our horses take us
All the way to Gramma’s house
    I’m wearing my dress clothes
Vi has on a skirt and blouse

    At Gramma’s house
We eat good Christmas food happily
    We’re stuffed completely
    Baked ham, pierogi, and halushki

We return back to our abode
    In our sleigh
Pulled by our two white horses
We shall be home without delay

    We dream in our beds
    Of Christmas stories
    Snoring away contently
    We see gourmet pastries
