My Broken Mind
I have
A disjointed mind
Sanity for me
Is hard to findI take
Psychoactive medication
When I have psychosis
I try meditationI sometimes
Fly into a rage
So I read Scripture
And turn the pageI get
Very depressed
And full of lethargy
I feel sad and dejectedI eschew
Social interaction
I like being at home
And enjoying relaxationI have PTSD
Violent imagery
Triggers me
I take my meds religiouslyby Zachary Uram

The Pilgrims

These godly folks
Set sail
Aboard wooden ships
Some people were frailThey ventured far
To a new land
By the captain’s
Steady handMany of them were escaping
Religious persecution
A fresh start
Was the solutionThey traversed
Turbulent seas
Thanking God
On their kneesThe landed
At Plymouth Rock
Here their ship
Would dockThey established
A Christian theocracy
This form of government
Is purely godlyDuring the first winter
Many they could not revive
Native Americans
Taught them to surviveThe natives and pilgrims
Had a bountiful feast
They thanked God
From greatest to leastMillions of us
Are their kin
They all
Resisted sinIt was a
Utopian society
Homogeneous
They made historySadly our society
Is now pagan
And filled with the ungodly
May Christ hastenby Zachary Uram

Untitled
I lay in bed
And rest my weary headI try to slumber deep
But I cannot sleepI wish to dream
Of a clear blue streamI sleep for half a day
God keeps the demons at bayNow it’s time I wake

Demons

Demons
Come out at night
They cause me
Quite a frightThe demons blaspheme
They fly overhead
Right over
My bedThey are black
With red eyes
If you aren’t alert
They could hypnotizeI rebuke them
In the name of the Lord
They shriek in pain
As I wield the Spirit SwordIn Christ I am
More than a conqueror
The demons
Must surrenderThese demonic entities
Are not my imagination
They exist in reality
And cause me consternationby Zachary Uram

Afternoon in the Country
I entered
The carriage
I was new
To marriageWe went
At a slow pace
The cool autumn air
Caressed my faceWe traveled along
The country road
Passing quaint farms
We even spotted a toadWe had afternoon tea
At the grand hotel
Biscuits were eaten
I shared the gospelA husband and wife
Repented and turned
From their sins that day
Eternal life they receivedWe were soon
Back home
I began reading
A good tomeby Zachary Uram

The Prey

The majestic bald eagle
Takes flight
The sun is
Shining brightHe’s searching
For a prey
He must feed
His children todayHis sharp eyes
Spot a tasty hare
Emerging from
Its lairIt prepares
For the kill
Oh what
A thrillThe eagle swoops down
Just above the ground
Its talons catch the prey
Oh what a bounty it foundHe flies back
To his nest
Killing is what
He does bestHungry little mouths
Need fed
And then his children
Will go to bedby Zachary Uram

Untitled
The time is right
For a sweet delight
There’s something
In the air tonightI will fly
In the sky
With the eagles
As time goes byI will howl at the moon
And make your heart swoon
With a loud voice
Until the afternoonI will bray at the lass
Just like a jackass
Hee haw! Hee haw!
This too shall passI ran in the rain
And it made me insane
Now I have
A defective brainby Zachary Uram

In Christ Alone

When I feel unloved
And full of fear
Christ is there
He is always nearWhen I am down
And depressed
Christ is there
I am no longer distressedWhen I have
An anxiety attack
Christ is there
There’s nothing I lackWhen I have
Disturbing visual hallucinations
Christ is there
To calm my mind’s machinationsWhen sanity
Seems far away
Christ is there
And my mind is okayWhen doubts
Cloud my mind
Christ is there
It is grace I findWhen Satan attacks
The Lord rebuke you I say
Christ is there
I no longer have dismayWhen I have
Inner voices
Christ is there
And the disturbance subsidesby Zachary Uram

Johann Sebastian Bach

I’m listening
To a Bach fugue
It’s apparent
His talent was hugeA master of counterpoint
His harmonies were heavenly
He knew many styles
Synthesized them most excellentlyI first heard Herr Johann Sebastian Bach
When I was but five years old
His Brandenburg Concertos
Hooked me on musical goldBach wrote over one thousand pieces
Sacred cantatas and works for keyboard
Passions, concertos, and pipe organ too
Listening to his music you’ll never be boredHe said the chief aim of music
Is to glorify the Lord
Bach did this
In music and wordOn Bach’s manuscripts he wrote “Jesus Help”
And “Glory to God alone”
In Bach’s music
The gospel shoneHe had a staggering genius
Unrivaled in musical history
Yet he was humble
As can beby Zachary Uram

A Magical Christmas

It’s that magical time
Of the year
When people are joyful
And full of good cheerLend me
Your ear
It’s wonderful Christmas
Songs you’ll hearThe tree has
Colored lights blinking
Beautiful ornaments
And tinsel glitteringServe up the eggnog
And tasty foods galore
There are no treats
That I abhorWe’ll take
A sleigh ride in the snow
The birds in the air
Put on a showWe sing carols
All through the night
The Christmas star
Shines brightOn this day
Jesus was born
On a cold
Christmas mornby Zachary Uram
