Western degeneracy

I support Russian President Vladimir Putin! He is a strong Christian leader who is fighting Western degeneracy creeping into his country!
Did you know 8 years ago Ukraine held fair democratic elections and a pro-Russian president was elected. But the CIA sent over agitators and after weeks of horrible demonstrations and riots the president stepped down and a pro-Western president was elected.
America and certain European nations have been pushing for Ukraine to join NATO as well as the EU. This is simply unacceptable.
Do you not realize the values being promulgated by the West are abortion on demand, LGBT insanity enshrined into law, fornication, pornography on demand, and other degeneracy? And remember that historically Ukraine was part of Russia. It is only in the last 30 years that that wasn’t the case. Putin is far too intelligent to fall for Western propaganda.
I wish America was more like Russia and that we had a leader like Putin who actually fought to preserve Christianity and fight liberal progressive degeneracy!!
As an American, I’m ashamed and disgusted that such Satanic values have been exported from this country to all over the world.
Western values of abortion on demand, pornography on demand, LGBT, gay “marriage”, hyper-materialism, hyper-consumerism are being pushed on Russia; Putin and the Russian people want no part of it!
Here is a great 5-minute clip of Putin putting a smug, liberal, arrogant reporter in his place!

Wilson Phillips

I recently made posts on Brian Wilson and The Mamas & The Papas so I thought I’d do a post on their musical offspring Wilson Phillips!
Wilson Phillips is an American pop group formed in Los Angeles in 1989. The group consists of Carnie and Wendy Wilson, the daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and Chynna Phillips, the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas.
Their 1990 eponymous debut album sold over 10 million copies worldwide and included five major US hit singles, three of which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1990, the group won the Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year for “Hold On“, and was nominated for five Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilson_PhillipsThe Wilson sisters and Phillips grew up together in Southern California in the 1970s and 1980s. The three shared a love of music and songwriting, and developed their own style of vocal harmonies. In 1989, the trio signed with SBK Records. The group is also known for being the offspring of prominent musicians; the Wilsons are the daughters of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and Marilyn Rovell of The Honeys, while Phillips is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas. Wilson Phillips released their debut album, Wilson Phillips, in 1990. Their debut single, “Hold On,” hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 9, 1990, bumping Madonna‘s “Vogue” off the top spot. The single was also number one on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary and became a worldwide hit, peaking at number two in Australia, number six in the UK, number seven in Ireland, number 10 in Sweden, and number 15 in the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland. The single also won Wilson Phillips the Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year for 1990. The second and fourth singles from the album also became number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “Release Me” (two weeks) and “You’re in Love” (one week). The singles “Impulsive” and “The Dream Is Still Alive“, peaked at number four and number 12, respectively, on the Hot 100.
In 1991, they contributed a recording of “Daniel” to the tribute album Two Rooms: Celebrating the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin. While not released as a single, it peaked at number seven in the US Adult Contemporary chart due to strong radio airplay. They also released the song “You’re in Love” the same year, which scored as a number one (and to date, their last top-10) pop single. In 1992, Wilson Phillips also made history as Billboard declared their debut album the best-selling album of all time by an all female group, peaking at number two on the Billboard 200 album chart, and selling over 5 million copies in the US and over 10 million copies worldwide, which also made Wilson Phillips, at the time, the best-selling female group of all time for a single album, breaking the previous record set by The Supremes.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilson_PhillipsI enjoy their catchy melodies and nice harmonies!
They broke up after 3 years, the same as The Mamas & The Papas had done, but have since reunited several times.

The Mamas & The Papas

Another great 1960s folk/pop group that I really enjoy is The Mamas & The Papas. They had great vocal arrangements, sublime harmonies and were a cohesive group.
My favorite song of theirs is “Dedicated to The One I Love” (1967). This haunting song echoes the pain of being separated from the one we love and worrying about their safety. I kept thinking of a couple with the girl in America and the man a soldier fighting in Vietnam. Unlike other songs where Cass has the lead, here Michelle Philips has the lead vocal. Her more delicate soprano voice was just perfect for this song.
My second favorite song is “California Dreamin’” (1965). It’s crazy to realize this group was only together for 3 years, yet left such a lasting legacy. The lyrics of the song, written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips, express the narrator’s longing for the warmth of Los Angeles during a cold winter in New York City. The church referenced in the song is St. Patrick’s Cathedral which John and Michelle visited on that cold winter day. This song is associated with the California budding counterculture and hippie movement, but I don’t see that strong of a connection. I think it works best as a straight folk/pop song.
My third favorite song by this group is “Monday, Monday” (1966). Beautiful harmonies in this song.
I know it doesn’t relate to their music, but I must say that Michelle Philips was one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen! Wow. Incidentally, Michelle is the last surviving member of the group who is still alive.

Brian Wilson

Brian Wilson, the brains behind the Beach Boys (he co-founded the group) and the single most important factor in their success, struggles with mental illness just like me. He wrote iconic songs such as “Good Vibrations” and “God Only Knows”. He’s a master of writing rich multi-layered complex harmonies with beautiful and captivating melodies, dynamic and elaborate orchestration, and vocal arrangements that are dazzling. These factors rate him as the foremost genius in pop music of the past 60-70 years. He literally changed how music was made.
Brian Douglas Wilson (born June 20, 1942) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who co-founded the Beach Boys. Often called a genius for his novel approaches to pop composition, extraordinary musical aptitude, and mastery of recording techniques, he is widely acknowledged as one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the 20th century. His work is distinguished for its vocal harmonies, complex orchestrations, and introspective or ingenuous themes. Wilson is also known for his past high-ranged singing style and for his lifelong struggles with mental illness.
Raised in Hawthorne, California, Wilson’s formative influences included George Gershwin, the Four Freshmen, Phil Spector, and Burt Bacharach. In 1961, he began his professional career as a member of the Beach Boys, serving as the band’s songwriter, producer, co-lead vocalist, bassist, keyboardist, and de facto leader. After signing with Capitol Records in 1962, he became the first pop artist credited for writing, arranging, producing, and performing his own material. He also produced other acts, most notably the Honeys and American Spring. By the mid-1960s, he had written or co-written more than two dozen U.S. Top 40 hits, including the number-ones “Surf City” (1963), “I Get Around” (1964), “Help Me, Rhonda” (1965), and “Good Vibrations” (1966).
In 1964, Wilson suffered a nervous breakdown and resigned from regular concert touring, which led to more refined work, such as the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, and his first credited solo release, “Caroline, No” (both 1966). As he declined professionally and psychologically in the late 1960s, his contributions to the band diminished, and he became much-mythologized for his lifestyle of seclusion, overeating, and drug abuse. His first comeback, divisive among fans, yielded the would-be solo effort The Beach Boys Love You (1977). In the 1980s, he formed a controversial creative and business partnership with his psychologist, Eugene Landy, and relaunched his solo career with the album Brian Wilson (1988). Wilson disassociated from Landy in 1991. Since 1999, he has toured regularly as a solo artist.
Wilson’s accomplishments as a producer helped initiate a period of unprecedented creative autonomy for label-signed acts. He is considered to be among the first music producer auteurs and the first rock producers to apply the studio as an instrument. The zeitgeist of the early 1960s is commonly associated with his early songs, and he is regarded as an important figure to many music genres and movements, including the California sound, art pop, chamber pop, punk, dream pop, and outsider music. Wilson’s accolades include numerous industry awards, inductions into multiple music halls of fame, and entries on several “greatest of all time” critics’ rankings. His life was dramatized in the 2014 biopic Love & Mercy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_WilsonSmile was to be the follow-up album to Pet Sounds, but due to stress from work, declining health due to abuse of alcohol, abuse of illegal hard drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and LSD, and abuse of food Wilson went through a rocky 20 years spending time in mental institutions and various living arrangements. Smile was scrapped in 1966. He emerged in the year 2000 much better and finally saw Smile realized as he envisioned it. It was a truly groundbreaking and revolutionary album that was decades ahead of its time when originally conceived in the 1960s. For the background on Smile click here.
To the surprise of his associates, Wilson agreed to follow the Pet Sounds tours with concert dates that would feature songs from the unfinished Smile album arranged for live performance. Sahanaja assisted Wilson with the sequencing, and later, they were joined by Parks, who was brought in to contribute additional lyrics. Brian Wilson Presents Smile (BWPS) premiered at the Royal Festival Hall in London in February 2004. Encouraged by the positive reception, a studio album adaptation was soon recorded. Wilson’s engineer Mark Linett recalled that when he handed Wilson the CD of the completed album, “I swear you could see something change in him. And he’s been different ever since.” According to Sahanaja, Wilson held the CD to his chest and said, “‘I’m going to hold this dear to my heart.’ He was trembling.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_WilsonRegarding Wilson’s mental health he suffers from schizoaffective disorder with mild bipolar disorder (manic depression) and general anxiety disorder. I can relate to Wilson’s struggles. I too hear auditory hallucinations on a daily basis, as well as visual hallucinations. Wilson has been brave in his mental health struggles and candidly discusses them.
Wilson is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the late 20th century. He was the first pop artist credited for writing, arranging, producing, and performing his own material. Wilson was also one of the first music producer auteurs, helping to popularize the idea of the recording studio as a compositional tool, and was the first rock producer to use the studio as a discrete instrument. In the 2010 book The Producer as Composer: Shaping the Sounds of Popular Music, he is acknowledged as a “brilliant producer” and “a major innovator in the field of music production.” The control Wilson had over his own band’s records was itself unprecedented in the music industry.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_WilsonFor a glimpse into the impact Wilson has had on music see these quotes by leading musicians on Wilson’s website.
Here are 2 of my favorite Beach Boys songs, both written by Wilson.

Sanctification Considered

Sanctification is the spiritual process of us sinners becoming holy by the work of God as we are in union with Christ. When we are first regenerated and born again (second birth) we receive justification and initial definite sanctification. But as we live our Christian lives, we engage in progressive sanctification whereby we are made righteous as we die to our Old Man and put on our new identity in Christ. Sanctification is a lifelong process, it doesn’t end until our mortal lives end and we are glorified.
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:13-16“Be holy, for I am holy.” – Here the apostle Peter is quoting Leviticus 19:2. One of the essential and eternal and immutable attributes of God is that He is holy. He wishes for us, His children through adoption by union with Christ, to also be holy.

This process of sanctification is accomplished through the work of the Holy Spirit in us. He delivers us, as justified sinners, from the effects of sin. This process is synergistic in the sense that it requires our active participation, however, this process is both initiated and sustained by God so in that sense it is monergistic. So just as our salvation is monergistic, so is our sanctification. God creates the good works for us to walk in, and God gives us the strength and ability to mortify sin and to perform faith working by love.

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
John 17:17Here is John Calvin’s commentary on this verse.
17. Sanctify them by thy truth. This sanctification includes the kingdom of God and his righteousness; that is, when God renews us by his Spirit, and confirms in us the grace of renewal, and continues it to the end. He asks, first, therefore, that the Father would sanctify the disciples, or, in other words, that he would consecrate them entirely to himself, and defend them as his sacred inheritance. Next, he points out the means of sanctification, and not without reason; for there are fanatics who indulge in much useless prattle about sanctification, but who neglect the truth of God, by which he consecrates us to himself. Again, as there are others who chatter quite as foolishly about the truth and yet disregard the word, Christ expressly says that the truth, by which God sanctifies his sons, is not to be found any where else than in the word. Thy word is truth; for the word here denotes the doctrine of the Gospel, which the apostles had already heard from the mouth of their Master, and which they were afterwards to preach to others. In this sense Paul says that the Church has been cleansed with the washing of water by the word of life, (Ephesians 5:26) True, it is God alone who sanctifies; but as the Gospel is the power of God to salvation to every one that believeth, (Romans 1:16) whoever departs from the Gospel as the means must become more and more filthy and polluted. The truth is here taken, by way of eminence, for the light of heavenly wisdom, in which God manifests himself to us, that he may conform us to his image. The outward preaching of the word, it is true, does not of itself accomplish this, For that preaching is wickedly profaned by the reprobate; but let us remember that Christ speaks of the elect whom the Holy Spirit efficaciously regenerates by the word. Now, as the apostles were not altogether destitute of this grace, we ought to infer from Christ’s words, that sanctification is not instantly completed in us on the first day, but that we make progress in it through the whole course of our life, till at length God, having taken away from us the garment of the flesh, fills us with his righteousness.
We are all born with a corrupted sinful nature due to the consequences of the Fall which resulted in every person being born tainted by that original sin of Adam. This corruption is manifested in the guilt of sin and the pollution of sin in our lives. When we are regenerated and justified this removes the guilt of original sin, however, to remove the pollution and to restore the image of God in us is a lifelong endeavor. It also should be noted that sanctification is worked out in a private way as we wrestle with sin corrupting our nature, and seek to undo that pollution, but also we are intended to be sanctified as a corporate endeavor of the Body of Christ. This is very comforting. We are not alone in our battle against sin. The Holy Spirit indwells us and gives us the power to overcome sin and be victorious in Christ. So this renewal restores to us what was lost.

It should be noted that the Wesleyan doctrine of entire sanctification or sinless perfectionism is utterly unbiblical and must be rejected. Scripture is clear that if we say we have no sin the truth is not in us. It is impossible for us to refrain from all willful sin, let alone the sins we commit that we didn’t directly will. It puts a believer in a very dangerous position whereby they feel complacent, that they have achieved complete sanctification and don’t have to any longer struggle and battle against sin. Such a doctrine is Satanic! We Reformed reject this view.

Orthodoxy and Religious Freedom

Russian President Vladimir Putin meeting with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, the head of the Russian Orthodox church Russia adopted anti-missionary anti-proselytizing laws in 2016 at the federal level. Similar laws already existed in various Russian states.
On July 6th, 2016, President Vladimir Putin signed amendments to the Religion Law imposing harsh restrictions on the sharing of beliefs, including on where and by whom they may be shared. The amendments ban broadly defined “missionary activity” by anyone without written permission from an officially recognized religious association, and apparently any activity performed by religious organizations not using their full legal names. The amendments also prohibit “missionary activity” on residential premises, or carried out by anyone who is a former member of an allegedly “extremist” religious organization, and allow wide scope for arbitrary official actions. The amendments were introduced as part of an “anti-terrorism” package proposed by United Russia Duma deputy Irina Yarovaya and Senator Viktor Ozerov. Protests against the changes were widespread. Putin is himself Russian Orthodox. For background on who proposed these laws and their history see here.
During the pandemic, Russia has continued its crackdown on evangelism and unregistered church activity—which includes almost all religious practice outside of the Russian Orthodox church. The 2016 regulations restrict people in Russia from sharing about their faith or announcing church activities, even online or at home unless permitted through a religious organization that has registered with the Russian government. Even then, evangelism is only sanctioned to occur within those designated churches.
Evangelical Protestants have become the most punished group under these new Draconian laws which severely restrict the religious freedom of non-Orthodox. The Russian Orthodox church (Moscow Patriarchate) is the only church in Russia not liable to these laws. It’s easy to see how this gives an enormous advantage to the Orthodox church in Russia to recruit new members, engage in missionary activities, etc.
The 2016 Yarovaya laws ban Russians from inviting outsiders to join their faith, even online or in their own homes, unless they have a government permit through a registered religious organization, and even then they can only evangelize in designated churches and religious sites.
Evangelicals in the former Soviet country say that even as many Christians outside the state-affiliated Russian Orthodox Church heed the restrictions, violators are more likely to face punishment when charged by authorities. The fines start at 5,000 rubles for individuals (~$75) and at least 50,000 rubles ($750) for organizations.
“Believers are afraid to carry the Word of God to the masses, because they fear fines,” Pentecostal Union lawyer Vladimir Ozolin told Forum 18. “As ever, law enforcement agencies assume that any church activity is missionary activity, which is certainly not true.”
https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2019/may/russian-evangelicals-anti-missionary-fined-yarovaya-law.htmlThese fines are very heavy. The typical Russian only earns $12 per day.
The July 2016 “anti-missionary” legal changes may be deterring some religious communities from public expressions of belief. “Because of the impossibility of clearly distinguishing between religious and missionary activities, the courts often conflate these concepts,” Society for Krishna Consciousness lawyer Mikhail Frolov commented to Forum 18, a news service covering religious freedom issues in Russia and surrounding countries, on April 9th.
“Believers don’t understand what they can and can’t do,” Frolov added, “and because of heavy fines they don’t want to take the risk and therefore significantly reduce their activity, especially in public.”
Pentecostal Union lawyer Vladimir Ozolin agrees that “to some extent”, the “anti-missionary” amendment has had a deterrent effect. “Believers are afraid to carry the Word of God to the masses because they fear fines,” he told Forum 18 on 19 April. “As ever, state officials assume that any church activity is missionary activity, which is certainly not true.”These laws are truly disgusting. It shows that the Russian Orthodox faith cannot stand on its own merits, and requires state protection to flourish! I am very upset at the lack of condemnation of these repressive and discriminatory laws by Orthodox living outside Russia in Western countries such as Canada, Australia, Western Europe, and the United States. I’ve noticed in my own Facebook theological discussion groups that 99% of the Orthodox don’t raise a single word in objection to these laws in Russia. They are happy that Orthodoxy is being favored and enjoys a special protected status. They certainly don’t care that Evangelical Protestants are the main victims! It is absolutely disgusting! Having suffered enormously under Soviet Communist rule you’d think they would have compassion for Evangelicals, but they don’t. These despicable laws are a black mark on Orthodoxy. Russia has more Orthodox than any other country. In fact, they make up the majority of the Orthodox worldwide. So you have the majority of Orthodox fine with religious discrimination and repression of religious freedom! Once the vast majority of Orthodox start denouncing these wicked laws and call for their repealing I will have more respect for Orthodoxy!
I’ve noticed Orthodox are the least ecumenically minded in my internet discussions. They, like Catholicism, maintain they are the One True Church and that anyone outside of Orthodoxy is outside the Body of Christ. As a Reformed Evangelical Protestant, I find this very disturbing and unsettling. I believe the One True Church is the invisible Church made up of all those who have been regenerated whether they be in the Catholic church, Orthodox church, or in Protestant churches.
The Russian Orthodox church is in bed with Russian president Vladimir Putin who maintains ruthless control of Russia. Instead of working together with Evangelical Christians, the Orthodox wish to subdue and punish them and force them into silence and submission. Absolutely shameful!! WAKE UP ORTHODOX CHURCH IN AMERICA AND START DENOUNCING THESE VILE LAWS!

If You Leave
This song, “If You Leave” (1986), by the English electronic band OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark), is one of my favorite New Wave songs of the 1980s. It’s also one of my favorite synth-pop songs. Also, note the saxophone, an instrument featured in my 1980s songs, which you don’t see in most songs today. It was recorded for the soundtrack to the iconic 1980s film “Pretty in Pink”, which is played prominently during the final scene.
“We’ve always had time on our side / Now it’s fading fast” – These lyrics are especially poignant and meaningful to me. For me, this song is about moving on from childhood to adolescence. As an adult, looking back, I mourn the joyful and carefree days of my childhood, when every day held excitement and adventure. And learning so much all the time. I long to return to those days. It’s was also the time when my family was still together before my parents divorced. So this song evokes a bit of melancholy in me.
The end of the film Pretty in Pink, set in a high school prom, was originally meant to feature the OMD song “Goddess of Love” (which the band released on The Pacific Age later in 1986.) However, director John Hughes decided to change the ending to Pretty in Pink after poor test audience reactions and felt that the new ending required a song with different lyrical content. Hughes asked OMD for a new song to match the feel of the ending, and also specified that it should be written at a tempo of 120 BPM, to match the speed of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, which the actors in the scene had danced to during filming. This request came two days before OMD was due to begin a tour, and as a result “If You Leave” was written and recorded in under 24 hours.
Lyrically the band has stated that the song is about “The end of high school… the ending of your childhood”, elaborating that they were trying to capture “this fear of what comes next”. Singer Andy McCluskey later noted that an editing error meant the dancing appears out of sync despite the matched tempo.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_You_Leave_(song)This was featured in the final scene of the John Hughes-directed movie Pretty in Pink, and OMD wrote it specifically for the film. In our interview with Andy McCluskey of OMD, he explained: “We were delighted to be asked by John, and went to the set where Molly and John Cryer were shooting. Unfortunately, the original song that we wrote didn’t fit after they changed the whole ending (the original ending had Molly Ringwald’s character choosing Duckie, who was played by Cryer, instead of Andrew McCarthy’s Blane). We had 2 days to write a new track at Larabee Studios in L.A. We worked until 4 a.m. writing a rough version and sent a motorbike to Paramount. John heard it, liked it, and our manager phoned us at 8 a.m. and told us to go back in and mix it. That’s how ‘If You Leave’ Happened! The song had to be 120 BPM cos that’s the tempo of ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me),’ which is the track they actually shot the prom scene to. Unfortunately, the editor obviously had no sense of rhythm because they are all dancing out of time in the final film. It was cool to be in the film for so long and fantastic to go on the red carpet at the Chinese theater at the premier.”

Lyrics
If you leave, don’t leave now
Please don’t take my heart away
Promise me, just one more night
Then we’ll go our separate ways
We’ve always had time on our side
Now it’s fading fast
Every second, every moment
We’ve gotta make it lastI touch you once, I touch you twice
I won’t let go at any price
I need you now like I need you then
You always said we’d still be friends somedayIf you leave I won’t cry
I won’t waste one single day
But if you leave don’t look back
I’ll be running the other way
Seven years went under the bridge
Like time was standing still
Heaven knows what happens now
You’ve gotta say you willI’ll touch you once, I’ll touch you twice
I won’t let go at any price
I need you now like I need you then
You always said we’d meet againI touch you once, I touch you twice
I won’t let go at any price
I need you now like I need you then
You always said we’d still be friendsI touch you once, I touch you twice
I won’t let go at any price
I need you now like I need you then
You always said we’d meet again somedayIf you leave
If you leave
If you leave
Don’t look back
Don’t look back -
America – the new Rome

It pains me greatly to see how far America has strayed from biblical morality. The popular culture is no longer Christian. One has to only tune in to the TV talk shows to see how they mock and ridicule and attack Christian faith at every turn. The seeds of this Antichrist culture were in the seminaries and universities of America approximately 55 years ago.
After the so-called sexual revolution of the 1960s, came the homosexual movement which is now known as LGBT. While pastors were no longer being trained to preach the whole undiluted Word of God, this soon spread to their churches, and from the churches to individual families.
In 1973 with the Supreme Court decision of Roe v Wade the so-called right and freedom to have abortion on demand became enshrined into law. Like Rome, America is now just about as thoroughly full of sexual immorality as you can get. The statistics are shocking, 7-10% of Americans now identify as LGBT, a full 95-98% of Americans are no longer virgins before they are married for the first time, millions of couples now live together, in unrepentant sin, satisfying the lusts of the flesh.
LGBT couples adopt children, raising them to believe that homosexuality and transgenderism are not a sin. The vast majority of those who espouse Christ in America are fornicating and committing adultery at virtually the same rates as those who don’t espouse faith in Christ! God will not be mocked.
It is now considered a great shame if a man or woman is in their early 20s and is still a virgin. Movies are made mocking virgins, popular comedians ridicule virgins as being abnormal freaks.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Isaiah 5:20We’ve seen this Scripture play out in America. The social values are now inverted. What was universally condemned as bad for 2,000 years is now seen as good, and what was upheld as good is now seen by the majority of Americans as bad. Just look at the polling which shows that the vast majority of “Christians” in America see LGBT as good and proper, and see sex before marriage as normal and healthy.
Satan launched an all-out assault on America in the past 50-60 years. With each new generation, there’s more tolerance for sin, and wickedness becomes enshrined in law. We, the Church, must shoulder the majority of the blame. If our parents and grandparents had lived holy lives, raised their children to fear and love the Lord, refused to compromise in our biblical convictions, maintained orthodoxy in our seminaries, boldly preached the full Word of God in our churches, tenaciously fought any laws which enshrined wickedness, we’d have a very different society.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14I believe it’s not too late for America to repent and turn back to Christ. But time is quickly running out. Over 63 million babies have been murdered through abortion since 1973, homosexual “marriage” is enshrined into law, sexual immorality is pervasive, pornography on demand is pervasive, and many Christians are addicted to it, profanity is widespread even among those professing Christ, all sorts of lies and deceit is commonplace in schools and businesses, Christ and biblical theology is mocked and ridiculed in social media, entertainment industry, books, etc.
My parents raised my 2 sisters and me to fear and love the Lord. We are all in our mid-40s and are all virgins. I don’t take any credit for that. I was faced with temptation many times, but God always provided a way out. It’s all His grace! Glory to God. I feel parents need to teach biblical purity and instill sexually moral values at a young age. We also need pastors to preach forcefully against the sins of fornication, adultery. Sadly, many pastors are worried if they preach that the majority of the teens and 20 and 30 somethings in their church are guilty of fornication or adultery that they would lose their financial contributions! We must stand boldly on the full Word of God, no matter what the cost!
Here is a very edifying and convicting sermon by evangelist Paul Washer on the lusts of the flesh.
By the way, here is a paper that makes a compelling case that America is Babylon the Great of the book of Revelation. This is the key nation to be used to support the Beast system of the coming Antichrist. I’m not sold on the idea, yet though, but it’s good to think about.

Russia Rising

I had insomnia last night and was awake around 4am, so I checked my news feed and saw that Russia had invaded Ukraine.
This reminds me of Russia’s invasion of Georgia in August 2008 on the pretext of aiding the Russian-backed self-proclaimed republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. And in 2014 Russia invaded and then annexed the Crimea region of Ukraine. This time Russia was aiding the Russian-backed self-proclaimed independent states of DPR and LPR in Ukraine.
To this day, Georgia is seeking to join NATO and the EU. And Ukraine has made overtures in recent years that indicate they are also interested in joining NATO. Having former Soviet states as NATO-controlled countries is simply unacceptable for Russia. This provides a direct security threat to Russia. Putin is a ruthless autocrat who seeks to expand the Russian empire.
I can understand Putin desiring to maintain Russian hegemony in these Balkan states, but Russia must recognize sooner or later these are independent and yes, now, Westernized states which Russia no longer controls.
Historically Ukraine was part of greater Russia, so Putin’s claims are not entirely without merit. Just what is Putin’s end game? Will we see another conflict in Georgia, will Russia now keep a permanent occupying force in Ukraine? Does Putin have plans to invade other former Soviet states?
I think Russia’s timing in invading Ukraine now is very interesting. I think Putin sees America, led by a weak and easily manipulated leader, that is President Biden, and figures now are the time to capitalize on our weakness. I fear China may see this weakness and lack of response to Ukraine and become emboldened to invade Taiwan. Russian and Chinese power is definitely rising.
I think this invasion of Ukraine will send already high natural gas prices in Europe even higher. Ukraine has vast natural gas reserves as does Russia. Russia can squeeze the supply to Europe. This will send global markets down.

Sanctification

Denying the desires
Of the flesh each dayResisting temptations
When they come our wayDoing the difficult thing
When you feel weakPushing through doubt and fear
When the road ahead looks bleakYour darkest impulses
You must allaySoon your thinking has changed
In a profound wayNo longer a prisoner
To the chains of sinYour soul has changed
By the Holy Spirit withinNow you choose Christ
No matter the costFinding daily strength
You thought was forever lostTis an ongoing struggle
Each day on earthBut by grace, you were transformed
The second birthNow you toil and labor
You fight and retreatBut you never surrender
Until your life is completeBecoming holy is difficult
Each day you must mortify sinNever being complacent
Never letting the Old Man winOur good works
Are a gift from LordSo walk in them
And raise your swordThe Sword of the Spirit
Which is the Word of GodMay we decrease
And Him alone we laudSpiritual warfare is intense
It will test us at every turnBut if we walk by the Spirit
We will eventually learnWe can do nothing ourselves
Yet in Christ, we can do allSo it is for every person
Who answers God’s callKeep persevering
Until the race is wonWhen you will behold your Savior
