Lordship Salvation

If Christ be your Savior
He must also be your Lord
On this crucial point
There must be one accord
If you truly love Jesus
You’ll do as He said
Following His commandments
Will not cause dreadAccording to Free Grace proponents
We can be saved apart from repentanceThis is Satanic folly
What wicked arrogance
Without following Christ’s Law
We can have no assurance of salvation
We shall merely live wantonly
Without sanctification
Such an antinomian view I detest
Was Christ’s death not worth our obedience? This is a lie from Hell
God demands our obsequiousnessSo dear Christian
What will you do?Live for Christ
Or the narrow way you will eschewIf you are lukewarm
He will spit you outYou’ll hear “Depart from me!”
Instead of rejoicing as the saint’s shoutLordship Salvation
Is simply the biblical waySo follow Jesus
And obey Him each and every day -
The Reformed view of salvation

Salvation is utterly an act of God
Man has no part
God chose the Elect before the world began
We were selected, not on merit, from the startThe natural man is totally depraved
Due to original sin from Adam’s Fall
We have hearts of stone
We can’t respond to a Gospel callApart from God
Man would lay dead in his sin
We are first regenerated
That is how faith can come inThe Holy Spirit grants us repentance
And faith too
These are all irresistible gifts
Which we cannot eschewIt’s all sovereign grace
That’s what makes possible salvation
We are born again
And saved from eternal perditionThe essential thing
The sine qua non
Is unmerited grace
Without it, our salvation is forgoneChrist’s atonement won us eternal life
By conquering death and sin
He secured our victory
The sinless Lamb of God, our propitiationIn Christ, we are more than conquerors
We need not fear the grave
So when Satan attacks
Let us be braveby Zachary Uram

The Downfall of Dr. Oz

As a Pennsylvania resident, I had planned on voting for Dr. Mehmet Oz for the Senate. But, these latest revelations, that Dr. Oz mocked his opponent Democrat John Fetterman’s stroke, change everything. I don’t know if this campaign is revealing his true persona, but what he’s become is very ugly indeed. As we see here, even longtime friends, such as the rabbi, are severing their ties to him. Dr. Oz, once the amiable celebrated Turkish-American heart surgeon dispensing medical advice, has now transformed into a monster.
As a conservative Reformed believer, I agree with Dr. Oz on 90% of his positions, yet it’s obvious now he is not a Christian. His campaign is showing very little charity or decency. I won’t be voting for Fetterman either. It’s a shame we don’t have more quality candidates. Modern politics has become a zero-sum game of brutal attrition. They even glibly justify their lack of moral behavior by saying “it’s just politics”. I won’t vote for anyone who jokes about someone nearly dying from a stroke.
My Grammy had a massive stroke and she lived 3 more years before a second stroke killed her at age 95. So this issue is very personal and painful for me. Strokes are no laughing matter. It’s the slash and burns “win at all costs” mentality, that now dominates both parties, which so many of us are now sickened by. We as the electorate are ultimately to blame as we haven’t held politicians to Biblical standards of morality and ethics.
What is also so especially egregious is the fact that Dr. Oz, a medical doctor, is mocking the medical condition of his opponent. Didn’t he take a Hippocratic oath to do no harm?
As Reformed believers, it is our duty to vote for the candidate who will best, even if imperfectly, glorify God and who stands for biblical morality. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type political figures, who espouse biblical ethics, yet come election time sling mud and engage in unbiblical and unedifying behavior, which are not biblical and are completely unacceptable.
We must demand better from our politicians. If a candidate is this toxic and unbiblical before they’ve even acquired power, it’s frightening to imagine how bad they’ll be in office. To tolerate a wicked moral calculus in order to win (where the end justifies the means) is something that we as Christian voters must no longer allow. We have the power to effect change. The largest Christian voting block in America is evangelicals. So I’m calling out fellow evangelicals in this post. I can handle the heat, but we should all get engaged and encourage our family, friends, classmates, and coworkers to no longer tolerate toxicity in candidates.
By the way, it appears that perhaps Dr. Oz is emulating fellow Turk Erdoğan who is notable for being the undemocratic strongman of Turkey. Erdoğan hopes for a revived Ottoman Empire.
This video is partisan, but it gives a good bit of context to the incident.

Saul’s Conversion

Can God use the persecution of Christians for the good of bringing nonbelievers to Christ? Christians would know the right answer is yes, yet many would not be persecuted if they don’t have to be.
In this classic booklet, famous preacher and Reformed English evangelist George Whitefield (he was the most famous preacher of his time in Britain as well as America) wrote us something encouraging and edifying with a look at Saul, and how God changed this man that persecuted the church to become an Apostle and incredible Gospel preacher name Paul. He focuses the attention of the reader on the grace of Jesus Christ to a persecutor of His church, Saul. This redeemed man who would be brought to conversion by Christ, who preached the very gospel which he had formerly persecuted, is a testimony to the truth that, in the words of Whitefield, “For all that we know to the contrary, some of those very persons, who are now persecuting, may be chosen from all eternity by God, and hereafter called in time, to edify and build up the church of Christ.”
While George Whitefield delivered us his words hundreds of years ago (he lived from 1714 to 1770); I think what he has to say is relevant for 21st Century believers as the world gets more secular and persecution of Christians is on the rise worldwide.
This booklet is available for free as an ebook (PDF) from Chapel Library.

Woke and Theologically Broke

Sadly, in recent years, there has been an explosion in wokeness; which is defined by Critical Race Theory (CRT), social justice, intersectionality, progressive Christianity, etc. Wokeness is Marxist, explicitly racist (they teach hatred for white people, and those white people should be penalized in various ways for their whiteness), and Satanic – as it pits Christian against Christian, and seeks to divide society and the Church based on skin pigmentation. The most well-known woke organization in America is BLM (Black Lives Matter).
Woke adherents like to call themselves “antiracists”. This term may seem innocuous, maybe even positive, but it is code for supporting a virulently racist set of beliefs that would openly discriminate against white people. The seminal book on anti-racism is How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. This book is the most explicitly racist book I’ve ever seen since the 1940s, with some of the Nazi books against the Jews. Kendi’s absolute hatred for white people and his desire to punish/correct them is truly horrifying.
Racism against black people, or any racial group, is clearly wrong, but the solution isn’t massive discrimination against white people. Kendi is an angry black man looking for outright revenge. His proposals would make the lives of white people miserable. I pray God quickens repentance and faith in him. He is hell bound. I urge you to read his book to see just how truly evil wokeness is. Antiracists like Kendi don’t want black people to be treated fairly based on merit, he believes they deserve every type of positive discrimination you can think of from reparations, affirmative action, hiring quotas, and bank loans to name a few. I also strongly recommend you read Reformed pastor (a black man) Voddie Baucham’s excellent book on all things woke Fault Lines.
It’s truly sad that our children and grandchildren are being taught woke ideology in public schools, even in elementary schools!
Tragically, woke ideology has made such deep inroads in society and advanced so quickly, that it’s now to the point in America, that in academia, the military, and Big Business, if one questions the woke narrative they can be kicked out of school, fired from their job, dishonorably discharged from the military, etc. The tools of the woke movement are fear and intimidation. They are just another variety of bullies. If you boldly oppose wokeness you will be branded a racist. They know education is the key to defeating wokeness so they seek to silence opposition.
The woke movement started in academia. It quickly spread into Reformed seminaries and now there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of woke churches led by woke pastors who graduated from those seminaries. The woke infestation has been particularly bad in PCA churches.
Many once solidly orthodox Reformed pastors and professors have now gone woke and are using their bully pulpits to convince other Reformed believers to also go woke.
Two of the biggest names to go woke are Tim Keller and Michael Horton. They have both said or written truly cringe-worthy stuff in recent years. Much of it appears on the popular website The Gospel Coalition, which is now the hub of the popular Reformed woke movement. Keller has long been a darling of the popular Reformed world. And Horton, professor at Westminster California, editor of Modern Reformation Magazine, and co-host of the popular podcast The White Horse Inn, is equally well known. His book on systematic theology is used in many seminaries.
Here is an audio clip where you hear, a cohost with Michael Horton (who has been woke since a few years back) tells Christian pastors that by preaching the truth of Scripture concerning LGBT behavior they are driving LGBT to commit suicide! Horton agrees with his cohost and says to Christian pastors that they should treat LGBT sins the same as all other sins. All sin is damning, but Scripture is clear there is a hierarchy of sins and God counts some as more heinous than others. Also, there are different temporal consequences to sin. Scripture is clear that homosexual behavior is an “abomination” and it’s considered so bad that under Mosaic Law the penalty for homosexual sin was death. Horton would have us treat homosexual sin the same as a 5-year-old girl telling her mother a lie! This false equivalency is dangerous and heretical.
The pastors Horton and his cohost are calling out are not pastors of churches like the Westboro Baptist Church, which preaches “God Hates Fags”. He’s talking about orthodox Reformed pastors preaching the undiluted truth of Scripture in love. Horton would have us conform to the prevalent Satanic culture just to appease men and not risk homosexuals committing suicide. The truth is that the most loving thing you can do is share the Gospel and preach Biblical truth concerning sexual morality. If someone is about to drive their car off a cliff because they don’t realize there’s a cliff around the next corner, the most loving thing you could do is to warn them before it’s too late!
This article is further evidence of Horton’s doctrinal drift.
One of my Facebook friends, a Reformed believer, said I slandered Horton and bore false witness against him by discussing the LGBT incident on the podcast. The simple fact is, I never slandered the man. Saying the truth is not slander. But in the popular Reformed world, too many have their favorite Celebrity Pastors/Professors they improperly adulate and idolize! REPENT!
MARK AND AVOID HORTON HE IS A DANGEROUS HERETIC COMPROMISING THE TRUTH OF SCRIPTURE TO APPEASE HOMOSEXUALS AND OTHERS WHO ARE LGBT.
In my experience, once a pastor or professor goes woke it’s a slow, but steady decline. Expect more heresy from Keller and Horton sadly! I call both of them to genuine repentance, to renounce all things woke, and return to teaching the orthodoxy they once taught.
And let me be very clear: the woke movement, as I said earlier, is absolutely Satanic! It teaches another [false] gospel. It sows discord and deep division in the body of Christ, and it propagates hate toward white people. We must actively oppose it and utterly crush it.
Here is a YouTube video that discusses the latest Horton incident in depth.

Federal Vision theology is heterodox

Referencing this article: https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/will-we-be-finally-saved-by-faith-alone
Piper seems to say that our justification (grounding) is delayed until we die and face a final judgment; whereby we are judged by our faithfulness (good works). He doesn’t use the exact same terminology that many FV (Federal Vision) adherents use, yet he seems to be articulating the same concepts.I believe FV is an egregious heresy. It is closer to Papist theology than historic Reformed theology. Can you imagine John Owen reading these FV statements? He would be absolutely appalled, as should we! I would break fellowship over someone holding to FV. It is another false gospel.
Doug Wilson has some good things to say, and his CREC churches have some faithful believers. But I believe he is dead wrong on justification. By embracing the heresy of Federal Vision (he now eschews that exact terminology, yet still teaches exactly what FV teaches so nothing has changed), Wilson and anyone who holds to FV is in gross theological error and are formal heretics.

Satan’s Stratagems

Satan has been relegated, in our modern Western society, to an impersonal and nebulous force. One who is not a severe threat.
The forces of darkness are fundamental. As Scripture says there are powers and principalities of evil in the spiritual world.
Demons are one manifestation of these dark powers.
Yet, most in the West would laugh at the notion that demons exist. Much less at the idea they somehow play an active role in our lives.
In our post-Enlightenment, post-Christian world, the idea of some tangible evil presence is simply relegated to the fantastical, a holdover from the Dark Ages. It’s something that scares you in horror movies, but in reality, you don’t even think about it. Surely demons don’t exist people exclaim. And even if they did exist, they don’t pose a threat to us, they tell themselves.
This mindset is precisely what Satan wants. He wants people to think he doesn’t exist, to be unguarded. He wants us to believe demons are not real. Scripture tells us we, as believers, are engaged in constant spiritual warfare. We are told to put on the full armor of God to fight Satan and his minions. Satan doesn’t care about the natural man, the unregenerate, he already has them in his snare. His target is Christians. He seeks to deceive, kill, and destroy us. But we can rejoice and fear not, for our Lord Jesus Christ defeated Satan once and for all time at Calvary on the cross.
As we grow in sanctification, which is strictly monergistic, we are better equipped and empowered to resist the schemes of Satan and forces of demonic oppression. Only unbelievers can be possessed by demons. As believers, our bodies are living temples of the Holy Spirit Who resides in them.
Here are some salient Scriptures to meditate upon:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8Scripture likens Satan to a powerful lion, seeking to stalk us and kill us. We are told to be sober and vigilant. To be on guard and sensitive to the spiritual battles being played out in our lives every day.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10Satan is driven to kill, steal and destroy man. But Christ, having defeated Satan, won for His elect eternal life.
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:37-39All the various demonic forces and dark spiritual entities which rage against us are powerless to separate us from Christ’s love and protection.
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:15Jesus nullified the evil forces and made them defenseless. He triumphed over them and showed all the world that neither Satan nor them could stop or hinder His complete victory, which He won on the cross.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Ephesians 6:10-18Here we, as believers, are instructed to wear the full armor of God. It is a metaphor for those things which are vital to us, in our spiritual battles against evil powers and forces.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact, the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:1-11Those who are in Christ have no condemnation. We are to live according to the Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides in us as believers. We have been set free from sin and the schemes of Satan.
Here are some quotes by Spurgeon on spiritual warfare:
“When you plead the name of Christ, you plead that which shakes the gates of hell and that which the hosts of heaven obey, and God Himself feels the sacred power of that divine plea.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“Remarkably, Psalm 50:15 was originally written to those who had mocked God. They had presented their sacrifices without a true heart. Yet the Lord said to each of them, “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee.” I gather from this that God excludes none from the promise. You atheist, you blasphemer, you immoral and impure one, if you call upon the Lord now, in the day of your trouble, He will deliver you! Come and try Him. Do you say, “If there is a God”? I declare that there is a God. Come, put Him to the test and see. He says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee.” Will you not test Him now and find Him true? Come here, you enslaved ones, and see if He does not free you! Come to Christ, all of you who labor and are burdened down, and He will give you rest (Matt. 11:28)! In both temporal and spiritual things, but especially in spiritual things, call upon Him in the day of trouble, and He will deliver you.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“True prayer is the trading of the heart with God, and the heart never comes into spiritual commerce with the ports of heaven until God the Holy Spirit puts wind into the sails and speeds the ship into its haven.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“does seem an incredible thing that such guilty nothings should have power to move the arm that moves the world.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“When the Creator gives His creature the power of thirst, it is because water exists to meet its thirst. When He creates hunger, there is food to correspond to the appetite. Even so, when He inclines men to pray, it is because prayer has a corresponding blessing connected with it.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“Alas, a great many people play at praying; it is nothing better. I say they play at praying; they do not expect God to give them an answer, and thus they are mere triflers who mock the Lord. He who prays in a businesslike way, meaning what he says, honors the Lord.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“Furthermore, if you are still in the cave of doubt and sin, plead with God to set you free. You cannot present a better prayer than the prayer of David in the cave: “Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name” (Ps. 142:7). If you are in prison, you cannot get out by yourself. You may grab the bars and try to shake them, but they are unmovable. You cannot break them with your hands. You may meditate, think, invent, and devise, but you cannot get through those bars. However, there is a hand that can cut bars of iron. Oh, prisoner in the iron cage, there is a hand that can open your cage and set you free! You do not have to be a prisoner. You do not have to be confined. You may walk in freedom through Jesus Christ, the Savior. Only trust Him, and believingly pray David’s prayer right now: “Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name” (v. 7). He will set you free!”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“If God’s mercies were to come to us unasked, they would not be half as useful as they now are, when they have to be sought for.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare“There are many who appear to be very mighty in prayer, wondrous in supplications, but they require God to do what they can do themselves. Therefore, God does nothing at all for them.”
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual WarfareSome Puritan quotes on spiritual warfare:
The Word of God has never wanted enemies to oppose, and, if possible, to extirpate it. They have given out a law concerning Scripture, as Pharaoh did the midwives, concerning the Hebrew women’s children, to strangle it in the birth; but God has preserved this blessed Book inviolable to this day. The devil and his agents have been blowing at Scripture light, but could never blow it out; a clear sign that it was lighted from heaven.
“A Body of Divinity” pg. 27

Here are some facts about Satan to keep in mind:
Satan can manipulate matter, weather systems, and bacterial life.
We see in Job 1 that Satan is able to manipulate matter and weather patterns and, in Job 2:8, he infects Job with a skin disease. His purpose is to afflict Job, and for our machinations, we note he is capable of feats not afforded to humans.
Satan can influence and sway legal proceedings and governmental structures.
In Revelation 2:10, Jesus states that Satan is in the process of influencing Smyrna’s legal proceedings by throwing a collection of Christians into prison. Likewise, in Job 1:17, he manipulates the Chaldeans, encouraging them to steal Job’s livestock. Though we are not told how he exerts his influence, we surmise he is the agent of these activities.
Satan aggressively seeks to trap individual Christians.
1 Timothy 3:7 says he seeks to trap elders. He is spoken of as a federal head type of figure. His minions study individuals and then seek to tempt and twist them in accordance with particularized patterns of sin. They cater and concoct a seemingly irresistible elixir of poison just for you. Television, social media, fast food, biology, age, and gender are all thrown into the recipe.
Satan is more skilled at deception than any other created being.
John 8:44 says his nature is to lie. If his mouth is moving, he is lying. He is the original liar and, therefore, the father of lies. Every lie was and is birthed in him. However, deception is all he has in his arsenal against Christians. As Colossians 2:15 teaches, this side of Calvary, Satan can accuse, but he knows—and his rebel realm know—that he has been reduced to utter fragility at the cross.
Satan is able to kill Christians.
He is able to kill you physically (Job 1-2), but not eternally (Rom 8). In Job 2, when Satan goes a second time to the LORD in the divine courtroom, he asks permission to kill Job, but God denies his request. I take that to mean Satan could have killed him, but God would not allow it. Everything Satan does comes crashing down on his own head, eventually crushing his skull (Gn 3:15) unto the glory of the Son of God and for the Christian’s good.
Satan is the Lord’s lackey for the Christian’s holiness.
In 2 Corinthians 12:7, Paul says his thorn is “a messenger of Satan,” and yet the Lord kindly uses the thorn (against Paul’s will!) to produce sanctification and spiritual power in Paul’s ministry. How kind of the Lord to give Paul his thorn! Satan plays the pawn in God’s economy, and the thorn stays against Paul’s will. Thus, Satan is ever-regulated by Romans 8 and, therefore, is providentially powerless to wound Christians in any resurrected or eternal sense. Neither Satan nor death, neither “angels nor rulers … nor powers … will be able to separate us from the love of God” (Rm 8:38).
Satan will be thrown into hell in the end.
Satan can and surely has read Matthew 25:41, which states he will ultimately be thrown into hell. That is what I mean by “Satan is so smart, he’s stupid.” This is his end, yet he rages against all “born of God” (1 Jn 3:9). He lies. He accuses the brethren (Rv 12:10). But he cannot succeed in bringing a guilty sentence upon the Christian anymore (Col 2:14).
Satan is resistible.
James 4:7 says, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” He will flee from you, Christian. Resist him. If Christians resist temptation, hold firm the promise of resurrection, and do not give in, do not accept the enemy’s lies, and do not give into his accusations—Satan will eventually depart. He is limited. He is finite. He will eventually move on to easier prey.

French Protestants Massacred by Papists

On August 24th, in 1572, about 70,000 Huguenots (French Protestants) were butchered in the streets of Paris, and other French cities. The elderly, women, and even children were not spared Rome’s Satanic blood lust!!!
Roughly 20 years before, John Calvin wrote to the prisoners held captive in Lyon:
“Remember to lift up your eyes to that everlasting kingdom of Jesus Christ, and to think of whose cause it is in which you fight; for that glance will not only make you overcome all temptations which may spring from the infirmity of your flesh, but will also render you invincible by all the wiles of Satan, whatever he may devise to darken God’s truth,–for I am well assured, that it is by His grace you are so settled and grounded, that you do not walk at a venture, but that you can say with that valiant champion of Jesus Christ, I know in whom I have believed.”
John Calvin, July 7th, 1553Full letter: http://huguenotheritage.com/2015/09/calvin-letter/
The French Huguenots were told to renounce their Protestant and ancient faith and embrace the innovations of Rome, and they would be let free. 70,000 were killed in one week because they would not. They feared God alone, worshiped him only, and rested in him alone for their salvation.
The Romish church has killed millions of martyrs (mainly Protestants), who refused to submit to her errant theology! We must never forget our brothers and sisters. Rome forgot that the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church. The Protestants in the world now number nearly 1 billion!! What Papists thought they could annihilate, God used for good and prospered and multiplied His children!
Many of the Huguenots who survived sought refuge in other nations, including many who made America their home!
NEVER FORGET!!!

Catholicism: A Sinking Ship

Catholicism is slowly, but inexorably imploding from the weight of its considerable theological hubris and widespread immorality.
Statistics
Some shocking data points:
- There is widespread immorality among Catholic priests. In “Priests: A Calling in Crisis” Father Andrew Greeley (Professor of Social Sciences, University of Chicago) says over 50% of priests are in heterosexual or homosexual relationships.
- There is widespread disbelief among the laity. American Pew research reveals that 70% of the American Catholic laity reject the Real Presence. Georgetown university puts it at 63%.
- 80% of American Catholics do not attend weekly Sunday mass.
- 67% of American Catholics approve of homosexual “marriage”.
- 51% of American Catholics approve of abortion.
- It’s been long known that a majority of Catholic married couples used birth control. The first NSFG survey, which in 1973 was administered only to married women, shows that 66.4 percent of all married Catholic women of child-bearing age at the time used contraception. And that’s just the women, it doesn’t take into account married men who use condoms. According to recent studies, in total, when accounting for married Catholic men and women, 97% of American Catholic couples are in a persistent state of mortal sin because they regularly use forms of birth control that the Catholic church forbids.
These statistics show how heterodoxy (wrong beliefs) leads to heteropraxy (wrong actions).
Scandals
The various tawdry scandals of the Catholic church in the past 30 years have been well documented in the media. Here are some of them:
- The scandal of homosexual clerics having sex.
- Child sexual abuse by clerics (which was apparently covered up by at least 2 popes in modern times, including one who was named a saint by the Catholic church).
- The discovery of mass graves of children at Catholic-run facilities in Ireland and Canada.
- The power of the LGBT lobby (aka Lavender Mafia) in the Catholic church.
- The push for female clerics via Synodal discussions.
- The closure of tens of thousands of churches around the world due to lack of demand (Catholics not attending church).
- With the drop in the number of baptisms compared with historic data.
- The various cases of abuse associated with the Vatican II reforms and Novus Ordo masses.
- A homosexual orgy at Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio’s apartment.
- Australian Cardinal George Pell is the highest-ranking member of the Catholic Church to be ever charged with sexual assault.
- Over 35 years ago, the Vatican bought Weltbild, one of the largest booksellers in Germany. In 2011, the Catholic Church claimed that it was shocked to find out that Weltbild’s massive list of titles included thousands of erotic books (pornography).
- In 2003, The Boston Globe won a Pulitzer Prize for its investigation into child sex abuse in the Boston area by Roman Catholic priests. The Globe uncovered evidence not only of rampant sex crimes but also of cover-ups by the Church going back decades. Priests who were accused of being child molesters were simply moved from one parish to another. Alternatively, they were placed on “leave” and sent into treatment before being allowed to resume their regular duties.
- The Catholic church had an interesting topic to discuss during the Papal Conclave of 2013—their recent real estate deal. The Vatican spent approximately $30 million for a share in apartment blocks at 2 Via Carducci in Rome. Several members of the Church have apartments there, including the head of the Congregation for Evangelisation of Peoples, Cardinal Ivan Dias, who lives in a lavish 12-room apartment. In fact, his residence is just a floor above the Vatican’s newest acquisition—the largest gay sauna in Europe. The establishment is called Europa Multiclub and is considered one of the most famous gay hot spots in Italy. Taking advantage of its newfound fame, the sauna advertised “bear nights” using Bruno, a hairy, overweight “pastor of souls” who strips to “expose body and soul” before changing into a priest’s outfit. The press later observed that the Vatican purchased the new property using tax breaks granted by the Berlusconi government. It is now recognized as an official part of the Holy See.
- Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, has said at the funeral mass of his friend Cardinal Joachim Meisner, that the Catholic church is like a boat “on the verge of capsizing.” The key sentence is “that the Lord does not abandon His Church, even when the boat has taken on so much water as to be on the verge of capsizing.” It is true the Lord does not abandon His Church, but in no way is the Catholic institutional church the Body of Christ, it is but one part of many of it.
Theological drift
Over the past 1,700+ years since its birth in the 4th century, the Catholic church has steadily accumulated bad theology; it’s added heresy after heresy! This process has been dubbed “doctrinal development” according to Catholic saint and theologian John Henry Newman. It allows the “unchanging” church to add new beliefs, all the while claiming they have an ancient pedigree. Without Sola Scriptura to anchor the church’s beliefs in the strong and unwavering foundation of Scripture, the Catholic church is left adrift in a sea of man-made opinions. The Apostle Paul warned us that even if an angel should preach a different gospel we should ignore them. Since the Council of Trent, in the 16th century, the Catholic church has anathematized the true gospel of salvation by sovereign grace alone through faith alone, according to Scripture alone!

Autumn Reflections

I meander through the park
On a cold autumn day
The multi-hued leaves crunch satisfyingly underfoot
Reflecting on God’s providence and grace
My mood is slightly morose, yet hopeful
Squirrels open chestnuts for the long winter ahead
Over head a Peregrine falcon soars majestically
Eyeing its prey
A mouse darts across the open field
The leaves swirl around in the wind
Similar to Brownian motion
My breath hangs suspended briefly in the frosty afternoon air
The panoply of life play out in front of me
It invigorates my soul
Connected to God and at peace
Knowing I’m secure in Christ
Makes this a very good day indeed
