Salvation

A sinful wretch was I
Darkness grew nigh

I was Satan’s child
My sins were far from mild

I was born in sin
Because Adam is my kin

I was bound for Hell
I was hopeless as far as I could tell

But one day a preacher I heard
He spoke God’s Word

In an instant came God’s sovereign grace
It grabbed me in that place

Of all my sins I did repent
I believed the Gospel that was sent

All of this was the work of God alone
For my sins Jesus did atone

On the rocky ground of Calvary
Christ’s sacrifice set me free

Jesus rose on the third day
No longer did He lay

It was not merited my salvation
Christ alone wrought the propitiation

I’m truly free
I’ll be with Christ for eternity

Now I walk in the light
My spirit takes flight

My salvation is assured you see
It is Christ who secures it for me
