Eastern Orthodoxy and Scripture

Unlike us Reformed Protestants, the Eastern Orthodox (EO) place their phronema (collective consensus over time), which is merely the fallible traditions of men, to a place of preeminence. This is an extremely dangerous position to be in. The EO do not have the corrective force of Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) to guide and safeguard their church from false doctrine. Sola Scriptura is vital to having purity and verity of doctrine.

The Orthodox perspective is much more experiential than rational, and they focus on the hierarchy and of the church as both the source of theology and the way to understand it. Correct doctrine is far less important to the EO than actively participating in the ritual life of the church.
