Friendship in A Digital World

Oh social media
How you vex me
Online friends
Are ephemeral
One day your bond
Is strong
The next day
You find yourself
Unfriended
Or worse
You are blocked
People say things online
They would never dare
To say in the real world
What cruel devotion
People put on airs
Is my friend
Really a friend
Or are they
A Judas
Such is the transitory
Nature of friendship
In the online world
It’s hard to convey
Emotions
Through the media
Of text
Social media
Generates
Lots of discussion
But it seems to be
A case of
More heat than light
I have
A few very faithful friends
Online
But I was shocked
When some of them
Unfriended me
I will continue
To seek out
Strong friendships
But I’m wary
And a bit paranoid
Are my friends
Laughing with me
Or at me
