Recently there was a terrible shooting, by an eighteen year old gunman, at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Nineteen children were killed, and two teachers.
I believe this shooting perfectly illustrates the total depravity of man. Without God restraining us every person is capable of heinous evil acts.
I also think that this shooting shows the need for arming teachers or else having armed guards in every elementary school.
Some are quick to blame this tragedy on guns. Our ancestors had many guns, yet these types of shootings were unheard of. Guns are just a neutral tool. They can be used for good or evil. The real problem is the unregenerate heart of stone these killers have. As we saw with the Oklahoma city bombing, one doesn’t need a gun to kill lots of people. I’ve read of mass casualties in China due to a killer using knives. Thinking about our previous generations in America, they had guns everywhere. Kids used to routinely take their rifles to school during hunting season. And no people were shot or killed! Certainly not little kids.
I don’t know if the shooter suffered from mental illness, but even if he did that is no excuse for committing evil acts. America doesn’t have a gun problem, it has a sin problem!
The solution to mass shootings, or any acts of murder, is for people to repent and believe the Gospel and trust in Christ alone for their salvation!
